Québec Cinéma’s mission is to showcase Quebec’s films and their makers through promotional and educational activities.
Access and audience awareness are core concerns for the organization, which organizes an engaging school-based program, the Lab Québec Cinéma. The organization also produces the three main showcases for Quebec’s films: the Rendez-vous, the Tournée and the Gala Québec Cinéma, reaching more than two million people around the world every year.
ABOUT THE RENDEZ-VOUS QUÉBEC CINÉMA
The Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma is the only festival dedicated exclusively to Quebec’s films. For 37 years, it has presented the widest possible range of cinematic genres and approaches, with works by new and established filmmakers. Featuring an annual program of more than 300 films, including some 100 premieres, along with an extensive line-up of free activities, for 11 days the festival is the ultimate celebration of Quebec’s films, with plenty of opportunities for audiences and filmmakers to meet.
ABOUT THE GALA QUÉBEC CINÉMA
The Gala Québec Cinéma is a major televised award show that recognizes the talent of the people who make our movies. This celebration of the richness, power and uniqueness of Quebec’s films reaches a large audience at home and around the world. Because of its considerable reach, it is one of the most important promotional showcases for Quebec cinema.
ABOUT THE TOURNÉE QUÉBEC CINÉMA
The Tournée Québec Cinéma tours Quebec-made movies from coast to coast, making the event the largest Canada-wide promotional vehicle for our films. Because most francophone communities outside Quebec lack access to big-screen showings of films from Quebec, the Tournée’s activities enhance established festivals and enrich communities’ French-language cultural offerings. Each year, several artists join the tour, making it an exceptional event for francophones and francophiles who love our movies.
ABOUT THE LAB QUÉBEC CINÉMA
The Lab Québec Cinéma team is driven by the conviction that it is crucial to make young people aware of Quebec’s films and introduce them to the people who make them. To that end, the Lab organizes instructional activities in schools across Canada. Through its awareness-raising activities, the Lab gives young people a space for experimentation, creation and discovery, helping them develop their critical faculties to help them see the world and the images around them from an informed perspective. This approach also includes a commitment to giving young people positive role models and contributing to the fight against dropping out. Over the last 15 years, Québec Cinéma’s school-based activities have reached more than 85,000 young people in 450 schools, raising awareness with screenings of more than 400 Quebec-made films and opportunities to meet more than 100 industry professionals. Lab Québec Cinéma’s activities are made possible by Bell Média in the form of tangible benefits.
